Software Engineer - Stack (SDS) Tooling

Applied IntuitionSunnyvale, CA
$135,000 - $265,000Onsite

About The Position

The Stack Tooling team builds software infrastructure across multiple autonomy verticals to help engineering teams test, analyze failures, and deploy faster. Directly connected to Applied’s mission of safe and rapid adoption of autonomous machines, our work spans local and cloud simulation enablement, enhancing simulation realism, autonomy CI/CD, and developer tooling to speed up the iteration cycle. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will execute highly cross-functional projects supporting autonomy developers, systems engineers, and triage and release teams. The work done by the team aims to cover multiple autonomy domains at once — a change that impacts trucking can quickly scale out to cars and offroad vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related engineering field
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production-grade code
  • Strong foundational programming experience in C++
  • Experience maintaining critical path developer tooling infrastructure
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and/or managing resources in customer environments

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Master’s degree in Robotics or other autonomy-related engineering field
  • Prior experience with data pipelining architectures, maps validity, or metrics and evaluation frameworks
  • Exposure to software simulation tooling and either RL-based, physics-based, or reconstruction-based simulation runtimes
  • Prior experience working on perception modeling, planning, controls, or other onboard robotics functions
  • Previous background working with automotive OEMs, autonomous vehicles, or robotic development platforms

Responsibilities

  • Combine different verticals under a single, unified simulation interface
  • Integrate with cutting edge neural rendering simulation software to enable dynamic environments in simulation and bridge fidelity gaps.
  • Enrich hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation testing fidelity to directly match what operators and autonomy engineers see on the road for stronger release gating signal
  • Stabilize, generalize, and scale code deployment and offboard vehicle pre-checks to cut down vehicle operations idle time before on-road testing.
  • Refactor complex mapping workflows into single streamlined pipeline involving offboard configuration management service
  • Integrate perception snapshots performantly into simulation to boost fidelity of resimulation with perception
