About The Position

Docker’s Platform Engineering team builds and operates the cloud-native platform behind Docker’s products. This role will establish a common foundation for the company’s internal applications and build custom tools for business needs. The engineer will create a framework for building and deploying internal tools—including Slack bots, web apps, and workflows—with authentication, hosting, observability, and alerting in place. They will also develop tools supporting cross-organizational efforts such as roadmapping, headcount management, and business reporting, while deciding when to build, buy, or integrate solutions. This is a hands-on role owning projects from scoping through rollout, adoption, and ongoing support, in collaboration with platform leads, engineering teams, and business groups such as HR, Finance, Marketing, and Customer Support. The role includes building and maintaining reusable application frameworks, templates, documentation, and examples; establishing standards for internal application development and operations; connecting internal tools to existing identity, data, and collaboration systems; and delivering custom tooling that addresses organizational gaps. The engineer will build in operational foundations such as incident management, SLOs, and alerting, and use AI tools to accelerate development and automate workflows where useful.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including building and shipping internal tools or full-stack web applications.
  • Strong full-stack skills, including a backend language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript and a modern frontend framework.
  • Experience designing reusable frameworks, templates, or platforms for other engineers to build on.
  • Experience deploying to AWS, GCP, or Azure using containers and CI/CD, and working knowledge of Kubernetes.
  • Sound judgment about build, buy, and integrate decisions, and experience integrating third-party SaaS products and APIs.
  • Experience working directly with non-engineering stakeholders to turn needs into working tools.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development or LLM-powered automation.
  • Clear written communication and comfort working asynchronously on a remote team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Cross-functional experience in program management.
  • Experience with internal tool or developer portal platforms.
  • Web design experience.
  • Familiarity with observability and incident tooling such as incident.io, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar.
  • Experience at a developer tooling or SaaS company at scale, and familiarity with compliance and security standards.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a framework for quickly creating and deploying internal applications and services, with defaults for authentication, hosting, CI/CD, logging, observability, and alerting.
  • Provide templates, documentation, and examples so teams can build internal tools without starting from scratch.
  • Set standards for how internal applications are built, secured, and operated, and make the standard approach easy to use.
  • Connect existing systems and sources of truth where integrations are missing.
  • Work across teams to identify gaps in tools, processes, and systems, and turn them into proposals for platform leads to prioritize.
  • Scope and deliver applications and tools to address identified gaps.
  • Ship early versions, learn from user feedback and usage, and improve tools over time.
  • Own tools through rollout, adoption, and ongoing support.
  • Evaluate whether needs are best met by building, buying, or integrating a product, and recommend an approach with its tradeoffs.
  • Connect tools to company systems such as identity, data sources, and Slack.
  • Help shape internal systems architecture so it remains consistent and maintainable as the company grows.
  • Build incident management, SLO, and alerting defaults into the internal application framework.
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate delivery and automate workflows where it adds value.

Benefits

  • Generous paid time off, quarterly Whaleness Days, and a designated end-of-year Whaleness break.
  • Home office support.
  • Technology stipend equivalent to US$100 net per month.
  • Annual stipend for conferences, courses, certifications, and continued learning.
