Senior Software Engineer, Developer Tooling

Triumph•San Francisco, CA
•$200,000 - $400,000

About The Position

Triumph is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Developer Tooling to improve its development and release processes through tooling and automation. This role spans the full engineering workflow, from local development and CI through post-release operations. It is a close-to-greenfield function: no one currently owns this work, and the hire will establish standards while identifying and addressing workflow friction and other improvement opportunities. The engineer will work alongside other engineers to make it faster and safer to build and operate Triumph’s systems. They will assess the time and financial cost of problems, prioritize improvements accordingly, and take projects end to end—from recognizing a need through design, delivery, adoption, and measuring results. Triumph describes itself as an AI-oriented company with an AI-integrated development environment, and expects the person in this role to be comfortable working within it.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience designing, building, and delivering an internal tool or system used by real people; ideally, it served a team of roughly 20 to 100 engineers.
  • Experience quantifying personal impact by describing the problem, solution, and measurable improvement.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals across the stack and ability to work in unfamiliar parts of a codebase.
  • Observational instinct to notice and address other people’s frustrations before they file a ticket.
  • Willingness and ability to work within an AI-integrated development environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with AI coding or productivity tools.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and eliminate friction in engineer workflows by building developer tooling.
  • Quantify the time and financial cost of workflow problems and use that information to prioritize work.
  • Find and propose improvements across the development and release process, without being limited to one area.
  • Work alongside engineers to reduce wasted time and risk in how they build systems.
  • Build and ship systems end to end, from identifying a need through design, delivery, and adoption.
  • Measure shipped tooling and its adoption.
