About The Position

The team’s pipelines process billions of users per day, and its segmentation system underpins Braze’s product offering. This role involves building and owning features in a complex, high-scale system, developing new segmentation capabilities, and improving system performance and cost. The position works across a Ruby on Rails backend and React frontend, with opportunities to develop expertise in large-scale data systems. The team also uses AI-assisted and agentic tools throughout product development to navigate its Ruby monolith, create proofs of concept, and deliver solutions efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional experience building and shipping web applications in full-stack development or backend services.
  • Solid understanding of software design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with SQL and at least one production database.
  • Ability to clarify ambiguous feature requests and turn them into working, tested code with limited oversight.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and a history of thriving in team environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Previous experience with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake solutions.
  • Experience working on high-scale, high-throughput systems.
  • Passion for customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features across the Ruby on Rails backend and React frontend, from design review through production rollout.
  • Own medium-sized projects by breaking down work, setting delivery dates, and delivering on them.
  • Write and tune queries against MongoDB and ClickHouse, and assess how segmentation performance and cost change with data volume.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver customer-focused features.
  • Write thorough automated tests, review teammates’ code, and participate in the on-call rotation to maintain system stability and quality.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation that may include equity.
  • Retirement and Employee Stock Purchase Plans.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Comprehensive benefit plans covering medical, dental, vision, life, and disability.
  • Family services that include fertility benefits and equal paid parental leave.
  • Professional development supported by formal career pathing, learning platforms, and a yearly learning stipend.
  • A curated in-office employee experience designed to foster community, team connections, and innovation.
