About The Position

Braze is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its User Targeting team, which builds the systems customers use to segment and target users. The team works on a high-impact product area supporting pipelines that process billions of users per day. The role involves building and owning features in a complex, high-scale segmentation system, developing new capabilities, and improving system performance and cost. The engineer will work across a Ruby on Rails backend and React frontend, query large datasets, and collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams. The team uses AI tools throughout its product-development workflow to work in a large Ruby monolith, develop proof of concepts, and move from requirements to solutions efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional experience building and shipping web applications in full-stack development or backend services.
  • Solid understanding of software design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with SQL and at least one production database.
  • Ability to take an ambiguous feature request, ask appropriate questions, and turn it into working, tested code with limited oversight.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and a history of thriving in team environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake solutions.
  • Experience working on a high-scale, high-throughput system.
  • Passion for customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features across the Ruby on Rails backend and React frontend, from design review through production rollout.
  • Own medium-sized projects by breaking down work, setting delivery dates, and meeting them.
  • Write and tune queries against MongoDB and ClickHouse, and understand how segmentation performance and cost change as data volume grows.
  • Work with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver features that meet customer needs.
  • Write thorough automated tests, review teammates’ code, and participate in the on-call rotation to maintain stable, high-quality systems.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation that may include equity.
  • Retirement and Employee Stock Purchase Plans.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefit plans.
  • Family services, including fertility benefits and equal paid parental leave.
  • Professional development through formal career pathing, learning platforms, and a yearly learning stipend.
  • A curated in-office employee experience.
  • Opportunities to give back through an annual company-wide Volunteer Week and donation matching.
  • Employee Resource Groups.
  • Collaborative, transparent, and fun culture recognized as a Great Place to Work.
