Software Engineer - Backend

About The Position

Deploy is hiring a backend software engineer to help build and improve products and core backend systems for its AI infrastructure platform. The role suits developers interested in launching products and features into production, working autonomously, exploring new technologies, and addressing challenges of scale. The ideal candidate has experience building core services and web APIs from the ground up and cares about both product quality and the technology behind it. The engineer will work across REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing, and distributed task and job processing systems. They will write secure, scalable, maintainable code, contribute product and engineering improvements, practice test-driven development, and help debug production issues. The position also includes participation in on-call rotations as needed and adherence to security and information-protection policies. Deploy describes itself as an AI company with more than 250 employees across offices in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Delhi. The expected base salary is $120,000–$180,000; actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Stock options may be offered in addition to base pay.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
A few years of experience building web applications.
Experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.js.
Experience implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
Experience building scalable backend APIs.
Experience working with relational databases; PostgreSQL is preferred.
Strong belief in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
Attention to detail and a passion for correctness.
Comfort learning new technologies and systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Nice To Haves

Understanding of monitoring and alerting platforms.
Experience with PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, or improve features across backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task and job processing systems.
Write and maintain scalable, performant, and secure code that can be shared across platforms.
Contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvements.
Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
Practice test-driven development.
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed to help resolve critical technical issues promptly and effectively.
Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code from vulnerabilities.
Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance and handling as relevant to the role.
Follow policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
Report actual or suspected security or policy violations or breaches to an appropriate authority.
