About The Position

Deploy is an intelligence infrastructure platform that provides developers and enterprises access to open-source and proprietary AI models. Its solutions include optimized model inference for leading open-source LLMs and proprietary models for content safety, AI and deepfake detection, sponsorship intelligence, and IP and publicity protection. The company has raised more than $200 million and has more than 250 employees across offices in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Delhi. The Backend Software Engineer will build and improve products and core backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task and job processing systems. The role calls for someone who can work autonomously, launch features into production, learn new technologies, and contribute to product decisions as well as technical implementation. The engineer will write clean, maintainable code, improve engineering practices and security, and help resolve production issues. The role may include participation in on-call rotations. The expected base salary range is $120,000–$180,000. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Stock options may be offered in addition to base pay. Deploy may use AI tools to support parts of its hiring process, with final hiring decisions made by humans.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
A few years of experience building web applications.
Experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.js.
Experience implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
Experience building scalable backend APIs.
Experience working with relational databases; Postgres is preferred.
Strong belief in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
Attention to detail and a passion for correctness.
Comfort learning new technologies and systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, or improve features in backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task and job processing systems.
Write and maintain scalable, performant, secure code that can be shared across platforms.
Contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvements.
Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
Practice test-driven development.
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed to ensure prompt and effective resolution of critical technical issues.
Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code from vulnerabilities.
Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance and handling as relevant to the role.
Adhere to policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
Report actual or suspected security or policy violations or breaches to an appropriate authority.
