About The Position

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with strong engineering fundamentals, mobile experience, and a full-stack mindset. This role is not limited to mobile frontend work. As AI-powered development becomes part of our engineering workflow, we expect engineers to use AI tools effectively to understand unfamiliar codebases, contribute across platforms, improve productivity, and deliver high-quality software across mobile, backend, and web experiences. The ideal candidate has strong problem-solving skills, understands core software design concepts, and is eager to learn new technologies. Experience with iOS or Android, backend services, APIs, and AI-assisted development is highly valuable. About the team: Our team develops the Walmart Business mobile app, delivering native Android and iOS experiences for business and enterprise customers. We focus on shopping, account management, payments, orders, store capabilities, personalization, and AI-powered assistance. Collaborating closely with Product, UX, Store Operations, Identity, Payments, Search, Marketing, and AI platform teams, we deliver scalable and reliable customer experiences. The team values ownership, strong engineering fundamentals, collaboration, and curiosity. Mobile engineers contribute beyond mobile, engaging in backend and web development while leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and delivery quality.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, data structures, API integration, testing, debugging, and production-quality delivery.
  • Hands-on mobile development experience, preferably with Android, Kotlin, Jetpack, app architecture, performance, and testing.
  • Ability to use AI-powered developer tools to understand codebases, accelerate development, improve quality, and contribute across unfamiliar platforms.
  • Willingness to work beyond mobile frontend, including backend services, APIs, Order Lifecycle systems, and web frontend when needed.
  • Strong ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and ability to learn quickly.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI concepts such as LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector search, and agentic workflows is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Build high-quality customer experiences across mobile, backend, and web platforms.
  • Use AI-powered developer tools to understand unfamiliar areas, accelerate delivery, improve testing, and raise code quality.
  • Contribute beyond mobile frontend by working on backend services, APIs, Order Lifecycle workflows, and web frontend when needed.
  • Apply strong engineering fundamentals to solve problems across the full product stack.
  • Deliver scalable features for shopping, account management, orders, payments, tax-exempt, and store workflows.
  • Partner with Product, UX, platform, AI, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Participate in technical design, code reviews, observability, experimentation, and production support.
