Staff iOS Engineer

Radar•San Diego, NY

About The Position

RADAR is hiring a Staff iOS Engineer to shape the company’s mobile and cross-platform technical strategy and influence engineering direction beyond the iOS team. The company is rebuilding its mobile apps, and this senior individual contributor will provide technical leadership without formal management duties. The role calls for significant autonomy, hands-on engineering, and collaboration with product, design, Android, platform, and backend leaders. The engineer will define long-term mobile architecture, help lead cross-platform strategy—including shared code and Kotlin Multiplatform adoption—and guide major initiatives from concept through measurable outcomes. They will build complex, high-leverage parts of the iOS codebase in Swift and SwiftUI, establish engineering standards, and mentor Staff and Senior engineers. The role also includes planning a smooth, low-risk migration of existing customers from legacy apps to the rebuilt app while continuing to support and improve legacy products. RADAR describes itself as a retail technology company building a hardware-enabled SaaS platform that uses overhead sensors, software, and AI-powered analytics to locate products in stores. Its platform is deployed in more than 1,500 stores and processes tens of billions of real-world events daily. The expected base salary range is $172,000–$250,000. Individual pay depends on work location and factors including relevant skills, experience, education, or training. The position is also eligible for equity and the benefits listed below.

  • Ability to influence without authority and align senior engineers and leaders on complex technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and raise the performance of those around them.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and high ownership in a fast-moving startup.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modular app architecture and build-system optimization.
  • Experience shipping features using newer Apple capabilities such as widgets and Live Activities.
  • Passion for design detail, accessibility, and delightful user experiences.
  • Experience developing and shipping a configurable UI.

  • Set engineering standards for architecture, quality, performance, and reliability, and drive their adoption across teams.
  • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and help develop future technical leaders.
  • Shape the technical vision and architecture for the rebuilt mobile apps.
  • Plan and drive the migration of existing customers from legacy apps to the new app, minimizing disruption and risk.
  • Support and improve legacy products while balancing their stability and customer needs against investment in the new platform.
  • Complete onboarding and security compliance training, meet stakeholders, and ship an initial production change.
