Staff Software Engineer, iOS Platform
About The Position
Reddit’s iOS Platform team sets the technical direction for iOS development across the company. The team serves other engineers by improving developer efficiency through libraries, APIs, frameworks, performance monitoring, shared components, and build tools. It owns core app components, including networking, persistence, and dependency injection, and defines the design patterns and technologies used in Reddit’s iOS codebase. The Staff Software Engineer will architect Reddit’s iOS app to scale for the next 100M+ daily active users, establish iOS development standards, and improve the developer experience. This company-wide role shapes the future of iOS development at Reddit, champions technology selection and best practices, and acts as an architect and go-to expert for complex iOS application challenges. The role also includes mentoring senior iOS engineers across Reddit.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 5+ years designing and developing iOS applications.
- Deep, experience-based understanding of building mobile applications at scale.
- Experience influencing technical direction and best practices related to iOS in organizations of 100+ engineers.
- Experience with modern iOS development frameworks such as SwiftUI and structured concurrency.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including design, product, and data teams, to deliver great user experiences.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.
- Strategic thinking and an interest in developing a long-term technical foundation.
- Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people’s lives globally.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of Reddit’s iOS mobile app and help it scale to the next 100M+ daily active users.
- Propose ideas and solutions to help make Reddit’s mobile apps best-in-class.
- Identify gaps in the current iOS app architecture and lead redesign of the iOS platform to improve modularity, performance, and quality.
- Build agentic workflows to accelerate migrations across a multi-million-line code repository.
- Mentor iOS developers across the company.
- Serve as the go-to person for developers facing complex iOS development problems.
- Champion technology selection and best practices for Reddit’s iOS application development.
