Within Expedia Product & Technology, our Content organization is currently seeking a Software Developer III to work on our Content Platform capabilities. These capabilities enable Expedia Group to acquire, enrich, and distribute hundreds of millions of assets (images, text, attributes, videos, and more) used across all of our brands and lines of business. When you plan a trip on Expedia Group websites or mobile applications, most of the content you encounter has been selected and delivered by our systems to optimize your experience. Our team is dedicated to delivering highly scalable software solutions in an agile development environment using modern technologies. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience, with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Ability to identify business problems at the project level and advocate for effective solutions.
Experience designing and delivering projects across at least four different products that are highly testable and observable, with a demonstrated ability to guide others in these practices.
Strong knowledge of technologies such as Spring Boot, gRPC/REST/GraphQL APIs, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS); databases including NoSQL, relational database engines, and caching technologies such as Redis, Valkey, or MemcacheD; and programming languages, preferably Kotlin and Java.
Demonstrated subject matter expertise in certain products or domains related to your work throughout your career.
Proven ability to optimize service performance, scalability, and reliability through thoughtful data modeling, caching strategies, and observability improvements for high-traffic or high-volume workloads, while driving operational excellence across owned services.
French and English bilingualism is considered an asset.

Nice To Haves

Experience designing and evolving multi-service or domain-level backend architectures for content platforms or similar large-scale data/metadata systems, including versioned APIs and schema evolution.
Demonstrated experience leading the technical implementation of complex features or projects, influencing service and API design across teams, and promoting best practices for testing, deployment, and incident management in backend systems.
Familiarity with AI-driven content or data workflows (such as classification, enrichment, ranking, or summarization) and with safely integrating and operating AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve content quality, developer efficiency, or customer outcomes.
Hands-on experience applying AI and machine learning concepts within large-scale backend systems, such as integrating internal or external AI services, optimizing prompts or model usage, or contributing to experimentation and data-driven evaluation of AI-powered features, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and scale backend services and APIs for Expedia Group's Content Platform, with a focus on high availability, resilience, and maintainability across multiple services and domains.
Implement robust low-level designs, API contracts, and data models to support large-scale content ingestion, storage, enrichment, and distribution workflows.
Write clean, testable, and well-documented code, including comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests, and contribute to automated deployment and release processes for owned services.
Diagnose and resolve complex production defects and performance issues, participate in on-call rotations, and improve observability, reliability, and incident response for content services.
Collaborate with Product, Program, and Engineering teams to translate business and content-domain requirements into technical solutions while mentoring peers through design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Safely integrate and operate AI and machine learning enabled solutions that improve content quality, relevance, and automation, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.
