About The Position
Develops and tests PC/PLC software control solutions for industrial systems applications, ensuring they meet client specifications and project requirements. The role involves implementing software design requirements with project teams and clients; creating control system software configurations and files; developing embedded, real-time automation software and software interfaces; and testing and simulating systems to verify functionality and quality. The engineer supports client system-test witness activities, commissioning engineers, and clients during installation. The role also leads project design reviews to help control quality and schedule, and develops software engineering standards and procedures to improve productivity, quality, and error prevention, including for new products. The position requires the ability to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet and availability for domestic and international travel of up to approximately 15%, sometimes with limited notice.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering with control automation coursework, mechatronics, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in control system engineering.
- Demonstrated experience with machine-level programming.
- Demonstrated experience designing software for industrial PLC, distributed I/O, and HMI systems.
- Demonstrated success as a contributing member of a project team.
- Ability to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet.
- Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts.
- Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Availability to travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 15% of the time, sometimes with limited notice.
Nice To Haves
- At least 2 years of engineering experience specializing in industrial drive and motor control applications.
- Demonstrated experience with GE PLC and HMI products.
- Demonstrated experience applying and integrating laser and/or camera-based sensor systems in control and automation projects.
- Demonstrated experience in embedded, real-time software application design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft development tools such as Visual Studio, VC++, Visual Basic, SQL Server, and .NET.
- Demonstrated ability to apply new technology to meet evolving business and client needs.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and implement software project design requirements in collaboration with the project team and client.
- Build control system software files and configurations, including AC and DC drives, motion control, local and remote I/O mapping, automation control, sensors, and human-machine interfaces.
- Develop and maintain embedded, real-time software for automation applications.
- Develop and document software interfaces to client and third-party systems.
- Perform system tests and simulations to ensure functional quality.
- Provide technical support as needed during client witness of system tests.
- Lead project design reviews to control project quality and schedule.
- Provide technical support to commissioning engineers and clients during system installation.
- Develop software engineering standards to improve productivity and quality and reduce errors.
- Develop engineering standards and procedures for new products.
- Bring full effort to tasks assigned by the manager, provide the manager with best advice, and give earliest notice when work cannot be delivered as specified.
- Cooperate and collaborate with peers and interact across the organization as directed by the manager.
