About The Position
The Softball Umpire is responsible for officiating adult coed, men's, and women's softball league games in a fair, professional, and consistent manner. Umpires will enforce league rules, maintain game control, ensure participant safety, and promote good sportsmanship throughout the season.
Requirements
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and professional.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must pass background check and drug test.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of softball rules and game mechanics preferred.
- Previous umpiring or playing experience preferred but not required.
- Previous umpiring experience
- Previous softball playing or coaching experience
- Experience working in recreation or sports programs
Responsibilities
- Officiate adult softball league games in accordance with league and USA Softball rules
- Make accurate and impartial calls during games
- Maintain control of games and handle conflicts professionally
- Ensure player safety and enforce sportsmanship standards
- Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled games
- Communicate effectively with players, coaches, scorekeepers, and recreation staff
- Inspect fields and equipment prior to games when necessary
- Report incidents, injuries, ejections, or concerns to recreation staff
- Assist with field preparation and cleanup as needed
- Serve as a positive representative of the Recreation Department
