About The Position

Teton County Parks and Recreation is looking for Softball Umpires for this upcoming season! Under basic supervision, oversees and leads a variety of recreation programs and events; performs a variety of tasks in support of the assigned area and program. Essential functions may include overseeing and leading day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities, assembling necessary supplies, taking attendance, observing participants, enforcing rules and safety procedures, implementing disciplinary actions, and participating in facility set-up, clean-up, and sanitation. The role supports the relationship between Teton County staff and the public through courteous and cooperative behavior, maintains confidentiality, and performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Up to 1 year of experience in recreation programs or working with children
  • Strong knowledge of softball rules and game mechanics
  • Ability to make confident, impartial decisions under pressure
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to communicate clearly with players and coaches
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of recreation site safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of methods of program planning and implementation
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to assess, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and demands simultaneously
  • Ability to administer basic first aid

Nice To Haves

  • Prior umpiring experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and leads day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities
  • Assembles necessary supplies for each activity
  • Takes attendance for assigned group and records names of participants who are not in attendance; calls participants or parents to verify absences as necessary
  • Oversees, leads, and assists with various activities
  • Observes participants during program
  • Enforces rules and safety procedures
  • Implements disciplinary actions as necessary
  • Participates in facility or venue set-up, clean-up, and sanitation
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
