About The Position

The Adaptive Recreation team of Scottsdale's Parks & Recreation Department creates inclusive programs, community outings, Special Olympics sports, and social events that promote independence, connection, and confidence. As a Recreation Leader II, you’ll play a vital role in supporting participants during programs, facilitating engaging activities, and fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where everyone can thrive. Requirements

  • No education required for this position.
  • A minimum of six months experience in a customer service position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
  • The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Graduated licenses are considered restricted and therefore not acceptable for driving positions with the City of Scottsdale.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
  • Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/section assignment.
  • Valid CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in designing, leading, and evaluating recreation programs for youth, teens, and adults with a wide range of disabilities
  • Experience providing hands-on support to participants when needed (excluding personal care)
  • Experience adapting activities on the fly to match individual abilities and ensure everyone can participate meaningfully
  • Experience delivering age-appropriate, ability-appropriate instruction from step-by-step guidance to using high-visibility equipment for participants with visual challenges
  • Experience supporting the creation and implementation of individualized behavior plans
  • Experience keeping parents and guardians in the loop with consistent, twice-weekly communication about progress, activities, and any behavior-related updates
  • Experience maintaining clean, organized program spaces through end-of-day tasks like sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, emptying trash, and organizing storage areas
