About The Position

The Head Softball Coach is responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must also instill behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. This role involves upgrading knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. The position includes extended hours, risk of injury, and due process predicaments. The coach must adhere to all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese, as well as existing system, state, and league regulations, implementing and interpreting them as needed. The coach is responsible for understanding and following the proper administrative line of command and attending required meetings. Additionally, the coach serves as a mentor to athletes, promoting character development, monitoring grades and conduct, providing guidance and safeguards during practices and travel, and directing student managers, assistants, and statisticians. The coach also oversees equipment rooms, locker rooms, and school property, ensuring cleanliness, proper use, and security.

Requirements

  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training for softball.
  • Promote character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in student athletes.
  • Upgrade personal knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
  • Know and implement all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese.
  • Know and implement existing system, state, and league regulations, and interpret them for players, parents, and fans.
  • Understand and follow the proper administrative line of command, referring requests or grievances through appropriate channels.
  • Attend public, staff, and departmental meetings that require attendance.
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Give attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during all practice games and while traveling.
  • Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing entry, issue, or requisition of equipment.
  • Permit athletes to be in authorized areas of the building at designated times.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
