About The Position

This position reviews statewide child welfare programs to ensure children’s safety and the quality of services provided. It evaluates the work of social workers, children’s services specialists, and supervisors for compliance with policy, best practices, and state and federal requirements. The role also gathers input from community partners, including the judicial system, tribal organizations, service providers, caregivers, and program participants to identify systemic issues, recommend improvements, and provide technical support to strengthen program performance. Requirements

  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organization's mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the organization.
  • Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Social Services: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, practices, and current trends in social services used in the planning, design, implementation, and/or evaluation of programs that provide a broad range of social supports to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or professional level experience providing, developing, administrating, or managing social/health services or social/health service programs.
  • Valid ID and successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.
  • Ability to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.
