About The Position

The Social Services Coordinator facilitates services that positively enhance the quality of life of affordable housing residents. The role promotes cultural appreciation, diversity, and resident involvement to support a safe and positive living environment. It provides basic case management and coordinates programs and events aligned with Better Tomorrows’ focus areas: health, wellness and nutrition; academic support; financial literacy; job readiness; and social and community engagement. The position is based at Kenilworth Courts in Washington, DC, and is scheduled for 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role reports to the Regional Associate Director and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One to three years of work experience in social services or a related field.
• Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and general computer software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Project planning skills and knowledge.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, or a related field.
• Knowledge of data systems.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate or coordinate programs, activities, and social services for children and adults, including out-of-school-time programs, resident education, job readiness and financial literacy, health and wellness, social engagement, and additional services based on community needs and compliance.
• Develop community partnerships and engage volunteers to facilitate or support required programming.
• Lead on-site food distribution programs, such as food banks, hot meals, and other food donations, to help ensure residents can access food resources.
• Create service goals and plans with residents, support residents in achieving them, monitor progress, and conduct wellness checks.
• Develop and use resource files to refer residents to appropriate services and follow up on referrals.
• Use data systems daily to track case-management progress, demographic information, and monthly program attendance.
• Publish and distribute monthly community newsletters and calendars to residents door-to-door.
• Provide customer service to the partner property management company, including helping residents comply with lease requirements.
• Follow Healthy Homes Program procedures to support resident compliance with housing inspections.
• Manage, track, and use the site budget according to Better Tomorrows’ financial procedures.
• Provide technical assistance to resident associations, if applicable.
• Attend required training and conferences, which may involve overnight stays with advance notice.
• Occasionally work evenings or weekends to accommodate special events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a Better Tomorrows manager.
