About The Position

Performs a variety of skilled labor tasks in heavy civil construction, including work related to erecting, repairing, and dismantling structures; installing waterworks, locks, and dams; and grading. The role requires following directions, adapting to changing duties, and carrying out tasks accurately and according to established procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience.
• Appropriate training and experience required.
• Ability to follow specific directions and perform varied duties that may change frequently.
• Ability to work within accuracy standards, repeat short-duration tasks according to set procedures, and evaluate information using measurable standards.
• Ability to stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects; frequently lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds; climb ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools and equipment; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; and see naturally or with correction.

Responsibilities

• Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight line.
• Bolt, nail, align, and block under forms.
• Signal construction-equipment operators to help align, move, and adjust machinery to meet grade specifications.
• Level earth to fine-grade specifications using a pick and shovel.
• Mix concrete using a portable mixer.
• Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete using a float, trowel, or screed.
• Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections.
• Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Perform tasks requiring dexterous use of hands and tools, such as sawing lumber, dismantling forms, and removing projects from concrete.
