About The Position

The Skate Park Recreation Leader (Recreation Assistant 3) position reports directly to the Skate Park Community Services Coordinator. The Recreation Assistant 3 is responsible for recreation programs at the Bellevue Indoor Skate Park, with emphasis on daily park operations, customer service, retail sales, skateboarding instruction, and leading other staff to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all participants. Work hours are primarily afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays, plus mornings during school breaks, approximately 15-24 hours per week during the school year and 35 hours a week during the summer school breaks. Weekly shifts between 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in skateboarding and/or recreation programming (paid or volunteer).
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and work effectively with youth, teens, and adults is preferred.
  • Strong customer service, cash-handling, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead and support other staff/volunteers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of skateboarding equipment, safety practices, and retail operations.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, or leading recreation programs, camps, or special events (especially youth or skate-focused).
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff, volunteers, or junior instructors.
  • Proven ability to create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for youth, teens, and adults
  • Experience handling incident reports, behavior management, or conflict resolution in a recreation setting.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision while following established policies.
  • Must successfully complete a background check (condition of employment).
  • Availability for the scheduled afternoon/evening/Saturday shifts and school-break hours.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and coverage of structured and drop-in programs, with emphasis on skateboarding instruction, retail operations, special events, and camps.
  • Provide lead direction and support to volunteer and temporary staff under the guidance of the Skate Park Community Services Coordinator.
  • Instruct skateboard-based recreation classes, clinics, and activities for a range of skill levels and ages.
  • Collect program fees and maintain fluency with the CivicRec registration and retail systems.
  • Manage weekly social media content and posting for the skate park.
  • Assist Coordinator with pro shop inventory, including stock management, adjustments, setup of new boards, and routine skateboard/equipment maintenance.
  • Interact positively with customers and participants; provide daily public contact, membership support, and excellent customer service.
  • Enforce all City of Bellevue policies, procedures, and park rules.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, including accurate cash handling.
  • Sign in new and existing members and participants; maintain memberships, process program entries and registrations, complete waivers, and assist with accident/incident forms.
  • Greet customers and ensure all participants have appropriate safety gear before skating.
  • Lead skateboard camps and weekly classes.
  • Complete all aspects of CivicRec registration and retail system transactions and record-keeping.
  • Perform weekly park maintenance, cleaning, and facility upkeep.
  • Support event planning and implementation in coordination with the Community Services Coordinator.
  • Contribute ideas for remodel design and renovations as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
