About The Position

A direct-hire, long-term Site Engineer role serving as the Resident Engineer on municipal capital improvement projects in the Westchester, Illinois area. Projects may include roadway reconstruction, water main replacement, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, streetscape, sidewalk, and utility improvements. The engineer leads construction administration from preconstruction through final acceptance, represents the Village during construction meetings, coordinates with contractors, utility companies, agencies, and municipal staff, mentors junior construction inspectors and project engineers, and maintains positive relationships with municipal clients. The position is onsite, with a possible opportunity to work hybrid later.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 10 or more years of experience in municipal engineering or related infrastructure work.
• Experience with IDOT documentation requirements and CMMS.
• Familiarity with construction inspection practices and municipal improvement projects.
• Experience serving as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on municipal infrastructure projects.
• Experience administering IDOT, MFT, or locally funded public works projects.
• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain Illinois licensure through reciprocity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Resident Engineer on municipal capital improvement projects.
• Lead construction administration from preconstruction through final acceptance.
• Manage contractor coordination, scheduling, pay estimates, RFIs, change orders, and claims.
• Represent the Village during construction meetings.
• Coordinate with utility companies, agencies, and municipal staff.
• Mentor younger construction inspectors and project engineers.
• Maintain positive relationships with municipal clients.
