Silicon Prototype Engineer

Apple•Austin, TX

About The Position

Apple Inc. has an opening in Austin, Texas, for a GPU Silicon Prototype Engineer. The role runs specified tests on appropriate emulation builds, debugs issues, and reports status. It includes participating in system debugging by capturing waveforms and writing triggers; architecting emulation builds; bringing up and supporting regular emulation-model builds; and debugging build issues. The engineer supports Software Verification by interfacing emulation with virtual systems and simulation environments, and uses emulation to accelerate silicon bring-up. The role also works with vendor field service and application engineers to address simulation and emulation hardware and software issues, and partners with pre-silicon verification teams to develop and implement support plans. Additional responsibilities include architecting and implementing transactors between software test benches and emulation hardware, exploring technologies and methodologies that use simulation, emulation, and hardware acceleration for new applications, and creating automation infrastructure to make emulation-model builds and test regressions more efficient. The position is 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience writing synthesizable Verilog or SystemVerilog HDL code to implement hardware test bench features.
  • Experience writing C and C++ code to implement performant software test bench features and execution infrastructure.
  • Experience writing code in languages such as Python, Ruby, or Perl to implement automation infrastructure in simulation and emulation environments.
  • Experience writing trigger logic in proprietary emulation-tool languages to isolate failures in emulation regressions and capture signal waveforms for failure-debug analysis.
  • Experience using waveform viewers for first-line signal analysis and triage.
  • Experience using test bench monitor and tracker logs to support hardware failure analysis.
  • Experience using revision-control software, including GitLab, GitHub, and Perforce, to maintain source code.
  • Experience leveraging EDA CAD tools for emulation and verification in a Unix/Linux environment.
