About The Position

Midwest Valve Services, a Novaspect company, is currently offering an opportunity for a Shop Supervisor to join our fast paced, customer-oriented team. Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Shop Supervisor provides technical expertise, is responsible for leading and developing the teams of technicians, adhering to the safety and quality expectations of the shop, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. In collaboration with the Shop Manager, the Shop Supervisor is directly responsible for the performance and training of the technicians in their department, and ensuring the technicians are assigned and scheduled for work that meets their level of proficiency. This role is directly responsible for the production of their department and its ability to meet customer needs and company goals. As with all positions in the supervisory team, this role is expected to exemplify and promote Novaspect Identity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience or related required.
  • 3+ years of people supervision people or team lead experience preferred.
  • High School diploma required.
  • High computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn internal business systems).

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of people supervision people or team lead experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of machining and welding processes needed for valve repair preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performance Management: Promote Novaspect Identity and culture of quality workmanship. Drive engagement through toolbox talks, one-on-one meetings, and availability for questions. Conduct performance reviews. Monitor job performance, acknowledge and recognize great performance, and address and document performance concerns. Work with the Shop Manager and HR to adhere to the Company’s performance management methodology and process.
  • Employee Development: Work with Training and L&D Specialists, execute training plans, schedule appropriate training for technicians, utilize career progression framework and timelines to develop direct reports.
  • Daily Oversight: Assign technicians based on scheduling needs and skill requirements. Communicate with field technicians, ensure resource availability, work scope responsibility, pre-job briefs, and address critical issues.
  • Shop Performance Metrics: Monitor department performance against metrics on shop production, units going out the door, schedules, deadlines (hitting turnaround times), actual hours against quoted, job packets; work with Shop Manager as needed to identify and implement new strategies to improve department performance
  • Business Tools: Ensure that all company business system tools are utilized throughout the shop and incorporated within daily work processes.
  • Documentation: Ensure repair documentation meets customer and company requirements.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work and ensure adherence to QA programs.
  • Shop Maintenance: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized department, and support equipment maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Safety and Training: Ensure adherence to safety guidelines and timely completion of team’s safety training.
  • Tools: Identify opportunities to optimize department workflow and technician productivity; identify additional requirements such as labor or special tools, that are needed and bring recommendations to the Shop Manager
  • Review repair options and select the most appropriate method and tooling to complete assigned tasks.
  • Direct Repair Work: Perform repair work, adhering to quality and safety standards, with a target billable time of 30%.
  • Support Sales and Customer Inquiries: Provide information to support sales and customer inquiries, and assist in resolving issues with Shop Manager as needed.
  • Operations Support: Communicate any out of scope or change order requirements identified during repairs to the Shop Manager and Repair Coordinator in a timely manner. Follow through on any process adjustments ensuring technicians are aligned.
  • Time and Expense Approval: Approve timecards, time-off requests, and individual expenses.
  • Staffing: Provide recommendations to Shop Manager on staffing needs and participate in recruiting and onboarding efforts.
  • Emergency Response: Assign technicians for after-hours schedules and be available for on-call/emergency needs.
