The Shop Supervisor administers and supervises the maintenance and repair of County fleet vehicles and light and heavy equipment, administers the County fuels program, and supervises assigned employees. This role operates under the supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director and involves overseeing mechanics and shop support staff. The work primarily takes place in an automotive shop environment, which may expose the employee to adverse weather conditions, power tools and equipment, and associated hazards. Key responsibilities include administering maintenance, repair, and inspection programs for fleet vehicles and equipment, managing the fuel program, and scheduling tasks to ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards. The supervisor is also responsible for purchasing and inventory control of parts and supplies, training and evaluating employees, implementing periodic maintenance schedules, and administering shop safety programs. The position requires performing and supervising high-level maintenance, troubleshooting, safety inspections, and repair work on various types of equipment, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and emergency vehicles. Additionally, the supervisor oversees fabrication, alteration, welding, and vehicle body repairs, plans preventive maintenance, provides emergency field service, and maintains a clean work environment, all in adherence to County policies and industry standards.
