About The Position

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing, planning, directing, and supervising the maintenance and repair operations of a single shop or facilities. Reports to: Shop Manager Essential Job Duties: Supports the Shop Manager with any and all assigned activities; acts as a leader and may help train individuals in the shop and / or makes performance or disciplinary recommendations to the manager May support reporting or other documentation assigned by the manager Coordinates the Service Office operations and workflow of vehicles and equipment in and out of the repair facility. Serves as the contact person for departments with vehicle or equipment needs including repair status inquiries and towing needs. Coordinates shop workflow. Collects detailed information from operation departments regarding service inquires or requests, problems, or maintenance requests Processes work orders into the computer system and assigns to appropriate shop floor personnel. Opens and monitors the fuel island operation to include fuel deliveries, test tank tickets, inventory levels, dispenser operations, and fuel tank status. Coordinates the daily use of bulk fuel cards with user departments. Performs other duties as assigned Scope of Responsibility: The Shop Supervisor provides day-to-day oversight of maintenance operations within a single shop or facility, ensuring efficient workflow, accurate documentation, and timely service of vehicles and equipment. This role supports the Shop Manager by coordinating service office activities, assigning work orders, monitoring fuel island operations, and serving as a primary point of contact between shop staff and operational departments. The Shop Supervisor may provide functional leadership, training support, and performance feedback to shop personnel, with decisions directly impacting shop productivity, equipment availability, safety compliance, and service quality. Requirements

  • Automotive Service – Knowledge of technical and administrative operations of a vehicle and equipment Service Office to include general automotive and equipment knowledge, maintenance programs and related technologies.
  • Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Safety - Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to service island operations to include basic fire suppression and spill containment materials and equipment.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Evaluates the best method of research and then exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving matters. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations.
  • Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, fleet management and related software to effectively complete a variety of tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Communication – Ability to communicate ideas effectively, including the deciphering customer vehicle needs and accurately scripting onto a work order; ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. Ability to handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
  • Requires a high school diploma
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in automotive service or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
