About The Position

The Shop Apprentice is expected to come to work willing to learn, first by listening and then by doing. Under the direction of the Production Manager, the apprentice learns essential methods and standards across the shop’s departments, with the goal of understanding the manufacturing process from start to finish and the quality and safety standards upheld by the shop. The position operates in a manufacturing/warehouse environment and is scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Requirements

• Willingness to learn.
• Ability to safely perform the essential duties and responsibilities, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical/musculoskeletal exam.
• Must pass drug screening.
• Must pass an audiogram test.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a daily basis.
• Must be able to talk and listen regularly; stand, walk, handle or feel objects, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms frequently; and occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to see and differentiate color, and ability to focus.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure.
• Capability to safely maneuver and control manual-transmission trucks under various conditions.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Learn essential methods and standards for the different shop departments under the direction of the Production Manager.
• Develop an understanding of the manufacturing process from start to finish and the shop’s quality and safety standards.
• Learn to read and comprehend drawings and cut sheets.
• Learn the methods used in the different departments.
• Use safe practices and learn to operate machines and tools safely.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and managers.
