About The Position

The Shipping Manager reports to the Plant Manager within Crown Bakeries. This position has a key role in the Supply Chain function and is responsible for the distribution and movement of products. Working at the direction of the Plant Manager this role will provide onsite leadership to ensure the logistics, warehousing and distribution operations are meeting safety, quality delivery, cost, and housekeeping objectives to support the strategic growth initiatives within Crown Bakeries.

Requirements

  • Stand Up and Lift Forklift Certified
  • Good working knowledge of the consumer goods industry, in particular baking ingredients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Entrepreneurial mind-set, with a high tolerance for ambiguity and complexity. Ability to be efficient with limited resources
  • Strong overall business acumen and creative thinking along with problem-solving and analytical skills knowledge
  • Organizational agility and resourcefulness, self-starter
  • Good time management skills and experience working with high volume data
  • Proven track record as a developer of talent and strong ability to be an effective listener
  • 7+ years’ experience working in the warehouse field.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or another similar-related field preferred
  • Food/Bakery manufacturing experience and/or Cold Storage warehousing is strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting product distribution for a multi-site manufacturing company is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with distribution clients to build strong and long-lasting relationships.
  • Working constantly with product carriers to ensure on-time loading and distribution of product to meet customer timelines for product delivery.
  • Oversee the day-to-day rotation of product (FIFO) and manages the storage and labeling of product.
  • Meet with logistics manager, plant manager(s), supply chain and department heads to ensure logistics are running smoothly and to understand any improvements needed to increase productivity levels and product movement at the warehouse.
  • Support the development of current shipping staff and partner with the plant manager and human resources on future succession plans. Identifies training needs and works with appropriate departments to ensures proper training is developed and provided.
  • Oversees the Forklift training and certification program for the Warehouse and ensures that all proper training and documentation is on file to support safety.
  • Execute on company priorities as outlined by the SVP, Operations through the VP Operations and Plant Manager, determine the proper course of action, and interact with the appropriate individuals to manage, complete analysis, and make recommendations for product distribution.
  • Monitor and manage warehouse budget
  • Respond to and resolve complaints and problems related to distribution of product
  • Participate in monthly “Deep Dive” meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager
