About The Position

Central Plains Steel is hiring a full-time, third-shift Shipping and Receiving professional at Plant 1 in Wichita, Kansas. The role works Monday through Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Shipping and Receiving team members load and unload trucks for delivery drivers and vendors, ensure quality, and keep the warehouse organized. They work closely with the delivery and purchasing departments to meet or exceed Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery goals.

The position involves routine warehouse and material-handling tasks, order assembly, inspections, packaging, material identification and documentation, inventory checks, and operation of material-handling equipment. The employee must follow applicable safety and quality standards and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area. This is heavy work in an environment where temperatures may exceed 100°F or fall below 32°F.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions applicable to work situations.
• Ability to use common-sense understanding to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
• Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and using measurements of length, width, height, and weight for basic math computations.
• Basic arithmetic skills, including calculating and converting decimals and fractions.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge, experience, and judgment.
• Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.
• Ability to stand for sustained periods.
• Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force.
• Ability to repeatedly get on and off truck trailers.
• Ability to work in temperatures above 100°F and below 32°F.
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, internal customers, and vendors.
• Must be able to obtain certification to operate all required motorized material-handling and rigging equipment.
• Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications.

Responsibilities

• Pull and assemble orders using work or shipping orders and other documentation.
• Coordinate and carry out material handling.
• Perform quality-control inspections.
• Sort and package parts as directed.
• Tag material for proper identification and complete required documentation.
• Complete work-order paperwork and documentation.
• Operate a yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane to load and unload trailers.
• Conduct inventory spot checks and daily or ad hoc checks for proper material tagging as directed.
• Report irregularities to a supervisor for direction.
• Adhere to and help ensure compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by a supervisor.
