About The Position

The Shift Leader leads and coordinates manufacturing operations during an assigned shift to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production of medical devices in accordance with BD’s Quality Management System, FDA regulations, GMP requirements, and company policies. The role provides direct leadership to production associates, supports employee engagement, drives operational excellence, and helps achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives. As a first-line manufacturing leader, the Shift Leader fosters accountability, continuous improvement, compliance, and respect. This position is assigned to the third shift, from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, and supervises more than 30 direct reports. The role is based at BD’s USA TX – El Paso – Northwestern Dr. work location. The Shift Leader may also need to work across manufacturing shifts and schedules to provide leadership support and maintain operational continuity.

Requirements

At least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
Strong leadership and people-management skills.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and problem-solving methodologies.
Ability to analyze production data and make operational decisions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work across manufacturing shifts and schedules as needed.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
Manufacturing experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or FDA/GMP-regulated environments.
Experience with ERP systems and electronic quality systems.

Responsibilities

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements.
Conduct daily safety observations and risk assessments, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
Ensure adherence to FDA, GMP, ISO 13485, and BD Quality System requirements.
Participate in investigations involving safety, quality, deviations, and non-conformances.
Escalate operational, quality, and compliance risks in a timely manner.
Lead and coordinate daily production activities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
Monitor safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity performance indicators.
Align staffing levels with operational requirements and drive production targets while maintaining quality and compliance.
Monitor line efficiency, downtime, scrap, rework, and labor utilization.
Ensure effective shift handoff communication between production teams.
Directly supervise production associates and team leads.
Foster a positive, inclusive, high-performance work environment and support employee engagement and BD culture expectations.
Conduct performance management, coaching, development discussions, and performance evaluations.
Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, attendance management, corrective actions, and talent development.
Identify training needs and ensure associates are trained and qualified.
Ensure products are manufactured according to approved procedures and specifications.
Support investigations, CAPAs, audits, and corrective-action implementation.
Drive right-first-time manufacturing performance and review production documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Promote a quality mindset throughout manufacturing.
Lead and support Lean Manufacturing and BD Excellence initiatives.
Use problem-solving methodologies to eliminate waste and improve operational performance.
Analyze operational metrics and implement improvement plans.
Participate in Kaizen events, process improvement projects, and value stream initiatives.
Support productivity and cost-reduction initiatives.
Provide leadership support across manufacturing shifts and schedules as needed to support operational continuity and business performance.
