About The Position

The Sheriff's 911 Call Dispatcher receives telephone reports of emergency and non-emergency incidents from Sacramento County residents, contracting cities, and local, state and federal jurisdictions. This is a transfer posting, meaning it is for current County of Sacramento employees only. To qualify for a transfer, employees must meet the minimum qualifications of the new job, and the salary difference between their current role and the new role must be less than 5%. There are three types of transfers: interdepartmental transfer (same class, different department), interclass transfer (different class, salary difference less than 5%), and voluntary demotion (transfer to a lower-paying class).

Requirements

  • One year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience receiving a high-volume of calls, and dealing with the public under stressful situations.
  • Possession of a valid typing certificate of 40 net words per minute from clear copy.
  • Must be able to visually distinguish between red, green, and orange colors.
  • Normal hearing in both ears, and good eye/hand coordination and finger dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak, read and/or write fluently, and to understand a language other than English.
