About The Position

Are you calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and ready to play a critical role in emergency response-answering 911 calls, coordinating first responders, and helping keep Fort Wayne and Allen County safe? Learn and perform emergency and non-emergency dispatching for police, fire, and EMS. Take 911 calls, evaluate emergencies, and provide critical information to first responders. Operate and maintain communications equipment while documenting all activities accurately.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • Must pass keyboarding test (minimum 40 WPM)
  • Ability to quickly assess emergency situations and extract key information
  • Calm, professional, and detail-oriented with strong communication skills
  • Available and flexible to work any assigned shift, holidays, and overtime

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of law enforcement, fire, and EMS operations
  • Proficient in computers, radios, and office equipment
  • Ability to read maps and use emergency codes effectively

Responsibilities

  • Answer 911 and non-emergency calls for service
  • Dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS in Fort Wayne and Allen County
  • Collect and report critical information during high-stress situations
  • Use NCIC, IDACS, and Spillman databases for warrants, license checks, and officer support
  • Communicate clearly and calmly with staff, emergency responders, and the public
  • Operate and maintain communications equipment while documenting all activities accurately
