About The Position

Detail oriented and calm under pressure, our 911 dispatchers use a multi-screen computer, phone, and multiple radios to receive and support incoming requests for assistance. Efficient and accurate collection and processing of key information is critical, so the correct personnel and equipment are dispatched to the scene of an emergency. Provides National Crime Information Center (NCIC) queries, provides intrusions detection and fire/smoke alarm monitoring services. This position is on a federal Abilityone contract that requires that most of the work hours are performed by employees with disabilities. Due to program requirements, this particular position must be filled by a person with a disability.

Requirements

  • Ability to possess or obtain applicable security clearance.
  • Ability to work shifts of lengthy durations, overnight, weekends, holidays, and assigned mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm.
  • Ability to transition between computer, phone, and radio equipment quickly and accurately. (ex.: multitasking while interacting on the phone entering information into the Computer Aided Dispatch System.)
  • Ability to clearly speak, read, and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency services telephone lines; records essential information and dispatches units from appropriate agencies.
  • Processes calls and inputs information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD).
  • Monitors building security and fire alarm systems as well as security cameras.
  • Process and record NCIC/GCIC information.
