About The Position

The Shelter Advocate provides crisis intervention, direct services, and systems advocacy for individuals residing in a domestic violence shelter. The role is expected to reflect and promote Family Pathways’ guiding principles of trust, collaboration, communication, integrity, respect, positivity, and creativity. This is a part-time position in Cambridge, Minnesota, with evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

• Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
• Must pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Provide support, advocacy, crisis intervention, information, and referrals to callers on a 24-hour crisis line, and assess calls for appropriateness.
• Use a Primary Advocate approach, facilitate case planning, and coordinate personal and legal advocacy for residents.
• Collaborate with staff to review cases and make recommendations.
• Complete intake forms with new residents within 24 hours of shelter entry; orient residents to the facility, explain resident expectations, and describe available services.
• Plan resident groups and activities, such as support, parenting, illness management, and house meetings, as needed and directed.
• Help residents develop problem-solving, crisis-management, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills.
• Cultivate a welcoming, peaceful, and healing environment for residents.
• Provide transportation for residents when necessary.
