La Clínica de La Raza offers a job-shadowing learning experience for people interested in pursuing a healthcare career. Participants observe healthcare professionals and learn about the organization’s culture, processes, values, and day-to-day operations. The experience is distinct from clinical rotations and is intended to provide general exposure rather than specific skills training. Shadows may observe staff using software and technology, attend meetings, tour an office, review relevant project materials, speak with team members about their work and career paths, and take notes. Shadows must not perform duties normally handled by paid staff, except briefly as a learning experience. High school students may shadow for a minimum of 3 and maximum of 25 hours per semester. Participants under 18 must be enrolled in school, obtain parent or legal guardian consent, and complete an emergency card. Adults in programs may shadow up to 40 hours per semester and must provide proof of class requirements, including required hours. All participants must complete an emergency card and sign a confidentiality agreement before participating. Participants may not miss school for shadowing, shadow relatives, or shadow a parent or guardian. The participant is responsible for transportation to the observation site. Participants and, when applicable, their parent or guardian must sign an agreement acknowledging release of the worksite and La Clínica from liability for injuries or losses during the experience. All participants must provide specified immunization records, including a current-season flu shot, Hepatitis B, MMR, TDAP, Varicella, and the first and second COVID vaccine doses, as well as a negative TB test from within the past year or a chest radiograph from within the past two years. Adult volunteers must pass a background check, provide a valid government-issued ID matching the name on their application and resume, and complete necessary forms. Minors must provide signed parent or guardian consent and a valid school ID; no background check is required for minors. A mask fit test may be requested by the Clinic Manager. Shadows are expected to maintain a professional appearance and follow attire guidance from their supervisor. Open-toe shoes are prohibited in clinical areas, and the posting specifies clothing and footwear that are not permitted. Participants may encounter confidential employee, volunteer, or patient information and must follow confidentiality and information-security procedures, including signing the required agreement. Personal phone and email use is limited so it does not interfere with work. Shadows must promptly report suspected abuse or neglect, safety concerns, accidents, and injuries to their supervisor, and follow posted safety instructions and emergency procedures.
