About The Position

Herff Jones is seeking a full-time Sewing Machine Operator for its Cap and Gown team in Arcola, Illinois. The role involves learning to inspect product components for quality and accuracy, operating automated machinery, and working across departments or with other machinery as needed. The operator is responsible for meeting finished-product quality standards, maintaining machine readiness, and joining materials with multi-needle sewing devices when required. Starting pay is $18.00 per hour.

Requirements

• Ability to recognize colors and different cloth styles.
• Ability to sit or stand for eight hours a day or longer.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, and elbows.
• Ability to work all mandatory overtime.
• Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, carrying, grasping, reaching, kneeling, walking, bending, and twisting.
• Ability to stand on a fatigue mat in a specific area throughout a shift of 10 hours or longer.
• Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Inspect component parts to ensure they meet quality standards and correspond to the bundling ticket.
• Learn to operate automated machinery in the department.
• Learn about all product lines.
• Ensure finished products meet quality standards.
• Clean machines and change needles, thread, and other items to meet machine needs.
• Join materials using multi-needle sewing devices as needed.
• Work in other departments, work areas, or with other machinery as needed.
