About The Position

Herff Jones is seeking a full-time Machine Operator for its Cap and Gown team in Arcola, Illinois. The role involves learning to inspect component parts for quality and to ensure they match the bundling ticket, operating automated machinery, and learning the company’s product lines. The operator is responsible for meeting finished-product quality standards, maintaining the machine by cleaning it and changing needles and thread, and joining materials with multi-needle sewing devices when needed. The employee may also work in other departments, work areas, or on other machinery as needed.

The position requires sitting or standing for extended periods, repetitive arm, wrist, and elbow motions, and the ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and moving materials. The work environment has moderate to above-moderate noise. Mandatory overtime is required.

Requirements

• Ability to recognize colors and different cloth styles.
• Ability to sit or stand for eight hours or longer.

• Ability to work all mandatory overtime.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to perform lifting, carrying, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, and twisting.

Responsibilities

• Inspect component parts to ensure they meet quality standards and match the bundling ticket.

• Clean machines and change needles, thread, and other items as needed.
