About The Position

The Sessional Lecturer will provide instruction to B.Ed students in the Faculty of Education. This role involves planning, preparing, delivering, and assessing a university course that aligns with the Faculty of Education's Bachelor of Education program and the course description. The instructor will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that models effective teaching practices for future educators. The successful candidate will facilitate learning experiences that develop teacher candidates' understanding of the Ontario Health and Physical Education curriculum, including fundamental movement skills, active living, healthy living, physical literacy, health literacy, inclusion, mental health, and mindfulness. The instructor will model evidence-informed instructional strategies and assessment practices that prepare teacher candidates to design safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for diverse elementary learners. The Sessional Instructor will also contribute to a cohesive course experience through shared planning, ongoing communication, and consistent assessment practices. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering course materials, assessing student work, providing timely and constructive feedback, responding promptly to student inquiries, and supporting teacher candidates' professional growth throughout the course. This position is part of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) bargaining unit.

Requirements

Evidence of an ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students.
Excellent organizational skills in order to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments, and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner.
Evidence of successful teaching at the pre-service and/or grade 7-12 level.
Evidence of the integration of subject-specific theories of learning/teaching into instructional practice.
Evidence of a successful integration of planning, instruction, assessment and cultivating classroom learning communities.
Evidence of an ability to reflect on one’s own professional practice and adapt practices as needed.
Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration.
Evidence of integration of digital technologies with instructional practice.
Openness to new and diverse perspectives of teaching and learning.
Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how teachers learn and develop.
Knowledge of health and physical education in the Ontario context.
Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment that integrates a variety of digital technologies.
An undergraduate degree in a field related to health and physical education is required.
A Master’s degree in Education or equivalent is required.
A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required.
Successful experience teaching health and physical education at the intermediate-senior grade level.
Successful infusion of technologies in practice as purposeful teaching tools for, as, and of learning in the classroom.
Demonstrated evidence-based, or research-informed practice.
Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Nice To Haves

A PhD in education or a related relevant field of study is an asset.
Successful teaching in an Ontario pre-service teacher education program is an asset.
Experience working within an LMS.
Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
