About The Position

The Sessional Lecturer will provide instruction to B.Ed students in the Faculty of Education for the EDUC 1315U PJ The Arts course. This role involves planning, preparing, and delivering engaging instruction, designing learning experiences that emphasize the creative process, accessibility, equity, cultural responsiveness, and interdisciplinary connections. The instructor will also provide feedback, foster reflective practice, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency across course sections. This position is a limited-term appointment and is subject to the terms of the collective agreement with PSAC.

Requirements

Demonstrated strong potential for excellent teaching contributions.
Proven aptitude for teaching at the pre-service and/or K-12 teaching level.
A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
Excellent communication and collaborative skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students.
Excellent organizational skills in order to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments, and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner.
Knowledge of arts education in the Ontario context.
Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment.
Evidence of the integration of theories of learning/teaching into instructional practice.
Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration.
Evidence of integration of digital technologies with instructional practice.
Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how teachers learn and develop.
A master’s degree in education is required.
A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required.
An undergraduate degree in an arts discipline (e.g., Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, Music) or equivalent professional additional qualifications is required.
Successful K–12 teaching experience in Arts education.
Demonstrated substantial teaching experience in at least two of the four Ontario Arts curriculum strands.
Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and assessing Arts learning aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
Experience integrating inquiry, creativity, and authentic assessment into classroom practice.
Experience integrating accessibility, equity, and culturally responsive pedagogies into Arts education.
Certification of current legal eligibility to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Nice To Haves

A PhD would be an asset.
Successful teaching in an Ontario pre-service teacher education program is an asset.
Experience teaching in an online learning environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in the Primary/Junior Arts course, drawing on demonstrated expertise in at least two of the four Ontario Arts curriculum strands: Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts.
Work collaboratively with another Arts instructor whose expertise complements their own to contribute to a cohesive course that reflects the breadth of the Ontario Arts curriculum.
Design learning experiences that engage teacher candidates in learning in, about, and through the arts, with an emphasis on the creative process, accessibility, equity, cultural responsiveness, and interdisciplinary connections.
Model effective arts pedagogy, integrating inclusive and inquiry-based instructional approaches.
Foster teacher candidates' understanding of authentic, equitable, and curriculum aligned assessment and evaluation practices.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to teacher candidates.
Foster reflective professional practice.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency across course sections.
