About The Position

The Sessional Instructor provides instruction to students in the B.Ed. Program at Ontario Tech University. The primary responsibility of the applicant is to teach a theoretically and practically grounded university level course within the parameters of the course description. The instructor will deliver the course using a variety of inclusive teaching, learning, and assessment strategies. The instructor will facilitate meaningful connections between theory and practice by preparing teacher candidates for leadership roles beyond the classroom, including coaching, mentoring, and teacher-facilitated co-curricular activities. Responsibilities include preparing, delivering, and assessing all course materials and assignments, providing timely and constructive feedback, supporting students throughout their required field experience, and being available for consultation during and following the completion of the course. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in coaching, student leadership, co-curricular programming, and/or extracurricular activities within K–12 education
• Demonstrated understanding of the role of co-curricular activities in fostering student engagement, well-being, belonging, leadership, and positive school culture
• Knowledge of effective coaching, mentorship, risk management, supervision, and ethical responsibilities associated with school based activities
• A proven commitment to providing innovative, inclusive, and student-centered teaching strategies
• Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage course delivery, assessment, and timely communication with students
• Evidence of successful integration of planning, instruction, assessment, and reflective practice
• Evidence of teaching that fosters leadership, collaboration, communication, problem solving, and professional responsibility
• Demonstrated understanding of equity, accessibility, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices in co-curricular programming
• A master’s degree in education or equivalent professional experience is required
• A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required
• Successful teaching at the pre-service and/or K-12 level
• Demonstrated experience coaching school athletics, leading clubs, student leadership initiatives, arts programs, or other co-curricular activities
• Experience organizing, supervising, or coordinating school events or extracurricular programming
• Demonstrated evidence-based, research-informed practice
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusive educational practices
• Experience working within a Learning Management System (LMS)

Nice To Haves

• Additional Qualifications (AQs), coaching certifications, leadership training, or other relevant professional certifications related to athletics, outdoor education, health and physical education, student leadership, or extracurricular programming are considered strong assets
• A PhD is an asset.
• Experience mentoring teacher candidates, beginning teachers, or student leaders is an asset
