About The Position

This position involves co-teaching the course FOR3000HF – Current Issues in Forest Conservation with a Forestry professor. The course addresses major approaches and challenges in effective forest conservation through critical analysis of Canadian and international forest management and practices. Topics include global land use conflicts, aboriginal communities, the forest industry, ENGO and governmental perspectives on climate change, carbon sequestration, endangered species legislation, value-added wood product technology, and biomolecular advances. Guest lectures and professionally based assignments will be utilized. The estimated course enrollment is 50 students.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Forester
  • Journalism and communications background
  • Extensive experience in forest conservation
  • Teaching experience an asset

Responsibilities

  • Co-teach course with a Forestry professor.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures.
  • Organize guest speakers.
  • Maintain course notes and readings.
  • Set and mark course assignments, which may include mid-term, essay and final examination or other assignments, with the support of a TA.
  • Compile, record and submit final marks.
  • Be available to students through regular office hours.
  • Ensure CFAB competency elements 2.1.2, 2.1.2, 2.1.5, 2.1.7, 2.2.1, 2.2.5, 2.2.6,7.1.1,7.1.3,7.2.48A.1.3 covered and evaluated within course.
