About The Position

This course, FOR3008HF – Case Study Capstone in Forest Conservation, involves analyzing information and preparing formal reports based on summer internships. Students will deliver brief seminar presentations on their work, and there will be an oral defense of the final paper. The estimated course enrollment is 50 students. The sessional dates of appointment are September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, with the understanding that this position includes the completion of course work and grading not finished by December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Extensive professional experience within the forestry sector.
  • Familiarity with the Master of Forest Conservation program at the University of Toronto.
  • Familiarity with the layout of the capstone project process.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to communicate with students and assess their project work accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure students have an internal academic supervisor and make necessary connections when required.
  • Develop and organize workshops to assist students with the progress of their capstone papers.
  • Follow up with students to ensure they are meeting deadlines and progressing on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent grading standard.
  • Work one-on-one and with the student group as a whole to prepare Master of Forest Conservation students for their final capstone projects and presentations.
  • Schedule students and supervisors for the December presentation period.
  • Act as host during the presentations.
  • Ensure students submit a final copy of the capstone paper.
  • Fulfill partial requirements for CFAB (Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board) Standard 2 Communications, Critical Reasoning & Leadership and Standard 7 Planning & Administration.
