About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach VCC394H5F Comics and Visual Culture. The course examines comics and graphic novels and their histories in print and digital media, including production, dissemination, and reception. It aims to develop a foundational understanding of the visual grammar of comics and address theories of narrative. The estimated course enrollment is 60 students with an estimated TA support of 1. The class schedule is Monday from 9-11 am. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 8 to December 8, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degrees in Art History or Visual Culture
  • A Ph.D is essential
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this UTM course previously is desired
  • Experience as a sole responsibility course instructor is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Design and teaching of a university credit course
  • Preparation and delivery of course material
  • Preparation and delivery of assignments, tests and/or exams
  • Supervision of teaching assistants
  • Marking of students’ work
  • Submission of grades to university officials
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Scheduling of guest speakers (limited to one week class session)
