About The Position

This course introduces Arab culture in general terms and familiarizes students with some fundamental realities of the Arab world (e.g. family, gender roles, social etiquette, etc.) with a general introduction to values and religious practices. The course is taught in English. The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person. However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Arabic cultural studies, literature, or a closely related field is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Arabic cultural studies and experience teaching university-level courses in Arabic culture are required.
  • Native, or near-native, Arabic language fluency is required.
  • Cover letter (this should specify the way in which the applicant’s background and experience give them mastery of the topic)
  • Current academic CV
  • Most recent course evaluations (if any)

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.
  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours
  • development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • calculation and submission of grades
