About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach EESC13H3 - Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The course aims to familiarize students with legislation, qualitative and quantitative approaches for environmental impact assessments and auditing, focusing on natural and socio-economic impacts. It will also cover environmental auditing and certification systems, using examples from forestry, wildlife biology, and land use. Students will gain practical experience through case studies.

Requirements

  • PhD or MSc from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution in Environmental Science or a closely related field
  • Outstanding ability to teach and communicate with undergraduate students
  • Minimum of master degree in environmental science or a related science
  • Knowledge of environmental risk assessment, auditing and remediation
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in teaching through student evaluations at the College/University level in environmental sciences
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language
  • Empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students
  • A minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment
  • Ph.D in Environmental Science or previous University teaching experience in Environmental Assessment
  • Availability during lecture times: Mondays 11 PM - 1 PM

  • PhD preferred
  • Experience and interest in teaching courses in environmental science
  • Technical and pedagogical competencies in relation to the online delivery of courses would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, term tests and assignments, marking, marks management, and supervision of TA(s)
  • Keeping of all the teaching material and grades on Quercus
  • Distribution of course materials to TAs as well as students (assignments, quizzes, etc)
  • TA supervision
  • Communicating with students (email, Quercus, etc)
  • Responsible for the safety of students and TAs in the field
  • Communicate and work with the technician for the course
  • Submit final course grades
