About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer for the course JAV120H1F - Visual Concepts. The course is an introduction to a wide range of topics situated in modernism, postmodernism, and the contemporary that inform current art practice and critical discourse. The course investigates post-1970 art practice through diverse societal, cultural, and political influences of contemporary critical thought. The estimated course enrollment is 40 students with 120 hours of TA support. This is a single position appointment for the Fall 2026 term.

Requirements

  • MA or MFA (or equivalent graduate degree) required
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Strong exhibition history and currently exhibiting artist
  • Strong writing and publishing record in the field of Contemporary Art
  • Applicants may be asked to supply references

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course material
  • Managing digital teaching materials and platform
  • Supervision of teaching assistants
  • Preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, final examinations and deferred final examinations

  • Dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions
  • Student contact hours
