About The Position

This course examines the paradox of urban development where upscale residential and commercial growth occurs alongside increasing numbers of residents facing housing insecurity, living on the streets, in encampments, shelters, or substandard housing. The course aims to connect with the federal government's goal of ensuring affordable and adequate housing for all Canadians by 2030. Through readings, discussions, guest presenters, and activities, students will explore the links between housing, homelessness, and urban politics, review policies and trends at various governmental levels, and engage with urban movements contesting displacement.
