About The Position

The School for the Arts - Drama is seeking Sessional Lecturers to teach multiple courses and sections during the 2026-2027 Regular Session, encompassing both the Fall Term (202609) and Winter Term (202701). These positions are located in Saskatoon and will be offered in-person. The courses cover a range of drama disciplines including Indigenous Performance Methods, Introduction to Drama as Education, Acting (Levels 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6), Technical Theatre, and Movement Fundamentals. Specific sections are designated for programs like SUNTEP/GDI, ISAP, and ITEP, requiring instructors with specific knowledge and experience related to Indigenous communities and education.

Requirements

  • An MFA degree with a focus in acting or equivalent acting experience.
  • Experience in teaching introductory acting to undergraduate students.
  • Knowledge of performance in relation to voice and speech training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in one or more languages of First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
  • Experience in language immersion techniques, in particular the “communicative method” of language acquisition.
  • An MFA degree in Acting or Theatre Performance, or equivalent professional acting experience.
  • A strong record of professional practice in theatre.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Evidence of effective and engaging teaching, informed by substantial experience in theatre.
  • An MFA in Acting or Theatre Performance, or an equivalent combination of extensive and distinguished professional experience.
  • Significant record of achievement in professional theatre, with recognized expertise in advanced acting practices and methodologies.
  • Substantial post-secondary teaching experience, including instruction at the intermediate or advanced level.
  • Evidence of sustained teaching excellence, mentorship of developing artists, and ongoing engagement in professional or scholarly/creative activity.
  • Expertise in Shakespearean and classical performance.
  • Experience teaching acting at the post-secondary level, including intermediate or advanced courses.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in text analysis, voice, and performance of heightened language.
  • An MFA in Theatre Performance, Acting, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of extensive professional experience.
  • Significant record of professional practice in movement-based performance, with expertise in advanced movement methodologies (e.g., Laban, Viewpoints, physical theatre, stage combat, or somatic practices).
  • A BFA degree in Design or Technical Theatre.
  • Professional experience in properties design, construction, and management.
  • Experience with instruction of fundamental design concepts and methods.
  • Expertise in classical and historical performance, including Greek, Medieval, and Restoration theatre.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in text analysis, performance styles, and historically informed approaches to forms such as tragedy, comedy of manners, farce, absurdism, expressionism, and epic theatre.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous community priorities and perspectives, and attention to socio-economic, inter-generational, and educational barriers that unequally affect Indigenous post-secondary cohorts in Saskatchewan.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous perspectives and research methodologies as they connect to relevant academic disciplines, and to the development of skills for student success in those disciplines.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to pedagogic praxis (reflection and reflexive adaptation of teaching).
  • A valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of performance in relation to voice and speech training would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge on Métis history, Michif language, and have experience in language immersion techniques, in particular the “communicative method” of language acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Indigenous Performance Methods, Introduction to Drama as Education, Acting (Levels 1-6), Technical Theatre, and Movement Fundamentals.
  • Deliver instruction in-person during the Fall Term (September to December) and Winter Term (January to April) of the 2026-2027 Regular Session.
  • Utilize a variety of traditional and contemporary methodologies, especially via performance, for language instruction in relevant courses.
  • Employ methods that promote collaborative and peer-to-peer learning in small course cohorts.
  • Teach mature student cohorts and students with nonstandard K-12 preparation.
  • Mentor students in advanced performance practices.
  • Engage in preparation and marking time required for courses.
