About The Position

This is an emergency posting for a Sessional Lecturer for the course MGY377H1: Microbiology I: Bacteria, offered by the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The course provides an in-depth study of bacteria, covering their structure, biology, adaptation, and effects on human health, serving as a foundation for advanced studies in related fields. The position involves delivering approximately half of the lectures, preparing and administering exams, working with Teaching Assistants, and hosting weekly office hours. Some student interactions may be online. The course has existing materials that may require minimal updates.

Requirements

  • Experienced with concepts and methods in foundational microbiology.
  • Experienced with bacterial cell structure.
  • Experienced with bacteriophage biology.
  • Experienced with how bacteria cause disease.
  • Knowledgeable about antimicrobial resistance.
  • Must submit a single PDF application including the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 application form, a cover letter, and a c.v.
  • C.v. must include evidence of expertise in genome sequencing, analysis, and yeast biology.
  • C.v. must include the name(s) of one or more qualified referees.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver approximately half of the lectures for MGY377H1: Microbiology I: Bacteria.
  • Prepare for and deliver the midterm and final exams.
  • Work with Teaching Assistants as needed.
  • Host weekly office hours for student support.
  • Potentially engage in online interactions with students.
  • Make minimal modifications to existing course materials as required.
