About The Position

An introduction to the art and craft of writing for the stage. Through a variety of practical exercises, students will be encouraged to explore the unique properties of the theatrical environment. Topics for investigation will include general issues (such as language, plot structure, characterization, metaphor, and symbolism, etc.) as well as issues specific to the theatrical context (such as theatrical time and space, movement, engagement with an audience, relationship to other theatre practitioners, etc.). The class will involve writing in and out of class, as well as exercises in effective and constructive critique of one another's work.

Requirements

  • Published playwright with recent professional credits in Canadian theatre and a specialization in writing for performance (including film and television)
  • Evidence of currency in subject matter
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, admin. and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising any TAs assigned to course, if applicable.
