About The Position

This course, designed for native or near-native speakers of Mandarin Chinese, develops rhetorical knowledge and critical thinking skills for effective academic reading and writing. Students will also receive training in conducting effective formal presentations with supporting media and public speaking skills. The estimated course enrollment is 30, with no estimated TA support. There are 4 positions available. The mode of instruction is expected to be in-person, but may change. Sessional dates of appointment are September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chinese literature or a closely related field is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Chinese literature and experience teaching university-level Chinese academic writing courses are required.
  • (Near-)native fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a closely related university-level course is preferred.
  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Order all necessary readings
